The Post reports the city is about to disclose plans for a $400 million publicly financed stadium off of South Capitol Street. Additionally, this is “amid” signs that Major League Baseball is strongly considering Washington as the destination for the lackluster Montreal Expos. The Post has two highly placed baseball sources that say the following two things are going to happen:
First, the baseball owners relocation committee is “leaning toward recommending” to the executive council that the Expos should move to Washington. And second, that negotiations would begin with Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos.
Angelos has been making his voice very clear: He doesn’t want a team in Washington, a team that could harm his franchise financially. He tells the Post:
My position remains unchanged for the reasons I have repeatedly articulated. … The facts don’t alter that position.
Where is the location? What of an incoming city council? Read on to the jump.
