A week after our London sister site launched, DCist is proud to announce the newest addition to the Gothamist family. Welcome, Torontoist. So like Londonist, they’ll be in beta test mode until the bugs are worked out.
After the election, DCist heard a lot of disgruntled politcos in the nation’s capital say that they were intent on moving to Toronto, but we haven’t seen much of an exodus to the other side of Lake Ontario as of yet. But, who knows, maybe that will change in the next few months.
We have fond memories of the capital of Ontario from years of school trips across the border. DCist even outwitted our all-kowing Latin teacher to escape Yonge Street by subway and grab some Greek food across the Prince Edward Viaduct on Danforth Avenue, all to make it back in time to get to the grand feast at Medieval Times over at Exhibiton Place. Good memories, including seeing a Japanese tourist have a major panic attack on the CN Tower’s glass floor.
It seems that Toronto and Washington have a few things in common. This Saturday’s Financial Times reported that Canada’s cities are aging and showing signs of trouble. The FT’s lede was about how the TTC subway is having some maintenance troubles as the “once state-of-the-art” system ages. Join the club, our friends.
