UDC Gave Free Housing to Athletes: Who knew that that the University of the District of Columbia’s official mascot was the Firebirds? We certainly didn’t. The W.Times continues to follow the basketball scandal at UDC, which has forced the university to cut its basketball program. The NCAA violations? Housing student athletes for free.

From Suitland to Bethesda, Teens Have ‘Passion for Fashion’: The Post details how locals teens these days have a “passion for fashion” putting all their hard-earned cash babysitting and the like toward designer clothing and accessories.

Take the case of Prince George’s County teen Brandon Singleton, whose mission is to make the movie “Clueless” a reality in his world:

Now 17, he wears Armani sunglasses inside his mother’s modest townhome on a recent afternoon as he rattles off a list of his favorite designer brands: Dolce & Gabbana, Coach and “a little Burberry here and there.” His first luxury purchase was a pair of shiny black Gucci pants that he bought freshman year for $450 — all the money he had received for his 14th birthday.

Here’s a shocker: Over in Bethesda, Fox’s dramatic look into the lives of residents of California’s Orange County, “The O.C.,” has inspired teens at Walt Whitman High School.

“Is there anyone who dresses like Marissa or Summer?” asked Annie Rossetti, 16.

“Yeah, at Whitman!” replied Ali Baker, 16.

No word on how far this trend has spread to the Virginia suburbs, but one Falls Church teen tells the Post that “he sees plenty of students sporting fake Louis Vuitton purses and wallets.”

Temporary Relief in Georgetown: Drivers in Georgetown will have a reason to smile while they’re stuck in traffic. Construction associated with the massive utility reconstruction along Wisconsin Avenue, along with certain restrictions, will be on hold for the holidays. The so-called Georgetown Project will start up again in January.
