We’d like to wish our readers a Merry Christmas, or as Gothamist put it, “the last Saturday in December.”

Whether you spent the day opening boxes of things you only vaguely wanted (socks?) and making small talk with family, working on finally recovering from your winter solstice bacchanal hangover, or quietly ordering Chinese, we hope it was pleasant.

Although most normal activity slows down, the day wasn’t without its news. Citing computer problems caused by weather related overloads earlier in the week, Comair canceled all of their 1,100 flights today. The Post examines holidays with ex-husbands and wives, observing “the phenomenon is still rare enough that no catchphrase has been coined for it. A blended-family Christmas? Mingled Day? All-inclusive holiday?” President Bush gave Laura some dessert plates to match her china collection, and Laura gave the President a raincoat, Reuters is reporting. We hope that’s just what they’re telling the media, because it sounds kinda boring to us.

Finally, the activist group Mayday DC reports their activist who had been perched on a ledge in the Wilson Building since Tuesday was “forcibly removed” and transported to Howard University Hospital. If you missed it, the Post’s style section yesterday described the 40-year-old protestor Jamie Loughner and her decision to launch a hunger strike on the ledge.
