
Now that the lull of the holidays has passed, a new wave of openings and closings is shifting through the D.C. arts scene.
>> “Artists of the Americas” closes Sunday the Art Museum of the Americas. The exhibition includes the work of one representative artist from each of the OAS member nations as a symbol of the “unity in diversity” within the inter-American system.
>> Two new exhibits open at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center today. The main gallery features the “visual folklore” by collage artist Billy Colbert. Trish Tillman’s three-dimensional prints and video and light installation in the Künst Vault Project Room explore the question of how we control information. (Her chromogenic print & plastic, Permission Complex I & II, is shown above.) A reception for the exhibits is tonight from 7-9 p.m.
>> The Arlington Arts Center kicks off its reopening this week with “State of the Art: A Mid-Atlantic Regional Overview.” The exhibit features 80 works works by 68 artists from Virginia, D.C., Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. DCist is looking forward to seeing the three Tiffany stained glass windows the center has installed at Friday’s reception from 6-9 p.m.
>> Toronto-based artist Scott Treleaven’s first solo D.C. show, “Who Are You an Agent For?,” opens at Conner Contemporary Art this Saturday. Treleaven will present his new collage work and celebrate the DVD release of THE SALiVATION ARMY, his highly-acclaimed, 22-minute underground film. The opening reception for the exhibit is Saturday from 6-8 p.m.
