Hotel Talks Off: The AP, via WJLA, reports that contract talks between the union representing hotel workers and their employers have gotten stuck and have broken off, a week before Inauguration Day when the city’s top hotels will be filled with impressionable out-of-town visitors.

More Moves for City’s Homeless: The city will begin moving homeless families residing at the Federal City Shelter at Second and D streets NW to spots throughout the city. The Post reports that the District feels it can help improve operations at the shelter, which has been run for 20-some years by the Community for Creative Non-Violence. The city, which owns the building the shelter is located in, says that the place is meant to house single men and women who are homeless, not families.

Speaking of Housing Situations … A new report provides more details on the city’s housing crisis. The city’s population of modest-income families have few lower-income housing options available, forcing many to spend more than their half their income on housing, the Post reports.

Property Owner in SE Sues D.C. Over Baseball Site Plan: The W.Times reports that the owner of a solid waste transfer station sitting in the way of the proposed new South Capitol Street baseball stadium is suing the District for $2 million in federal court. His charge: D.C. has maliciously prevented him from making “minor but necessary” renovations to his business, changes that would make his property more expensive to seize through eminent domain.
