A website created to allow activists to coordinate their activities using cell phone text messages is gearing up for this Thursday’s inauguration. The service was used at the Democratic and Republican party conventions to share information about the status of protests and police actions.

A number of moderated and unmoderated lists have been created on the website, TxtMob.com. The most organized is J20Info, a moderated list seeking to send out information “based on a team of people dispatched to the different events happening.” The Counter-Inauguration-DC list is an unmoderated forum where everyone can contribute, and the Turn Your Back on Bush group has created a list (tybob) already with over 200 members to coordinate their protest. Also available are a variety of small lists for activists in other cities and with niche interests – even the “Pagan Cluster” in town even has their own list.
