THURSDAY:
>> Noise Against Facism: The Inauguration got you down? You should head over to the Black Cat tonight, where for $12 you can see Mirror/Dash, a duo of former Sonic Youth-ers Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore that has never before appeared live. Other acts include Magik Markers, To Live and Shave in L.A, and tons more. 8 p.m.
>> Or head over to the Casa del Pueblo United Methodist Church for the Not My President Counter-inaugural Punk Rock Show, featuring Anti-Flag, Q and Not U, 1905 and Del Cielo. 7 p.m., $5. Profits go to Empower DC and Jan. 20 protest efforts.
FRIDAY:
>> Jean Grae, a rising female rapper described by Rolling Stone as “the best-kept secret on … the indie hip-hop scene,” plays the Black Cat with Diverse and SPP. 8:30 p.m., $12.
>> Meredith Bragg, a local singer/songwriter who plays stuff ranging from winsome indie pop to melodic folk, is at the Velvet Lounge tonight. With the Terminals, The Small Shouts, Debutants, and Greenline.
>> Colin Meloy of The Decemberists plays a solo show at Iota. You can probably expect a preview of the Decemberists’ not-yet-released Picaresque CD and, if you wish, purchase a limited-edition CD of Meloy covering Morrissey. With Amy Annelle. 9:30 p.m., $15.
SATURDAY:
>> Everybody’s favorite ’80s college rockers, The Smithereens, bring their act to the State Theatre in Falls Church. 9 p.m., $19.
>> Check out the Singer/Songwriter Showcase at DC9, with Justin Jones, Alfonzo Velez of Monopoli, Manny Bernardo of The Hard Tomorrows, and Katie Grove. $10. (Read our review of Monopoli’s recent show here.)
