If you can make it through the 4-5 inches of snow that are sure to shut down our fair city this weekend, we’ve got some picks to round out your weekend of snowball fights and hot chocolate.
FRIDAY:
>> Velvet Lounge celebrates its sixth birthday this weekend with a Friday lineup of Meredith Bragg and the Terminals, The Small Shouts (featuring Olivia from Washington Social Club), Debutants, and Greenline.
>> On-the-rise female rapper Jean Grae (pictured at right) plays the Black Cat. 8:30, $12.
SATURDAY:
>> Funnymen Stephen Lynch and Mitch Hedberg hit the Warner Theatre tonight at 8 p.m. $32.50.
>> Looking for a drink to warm you up on this cold winter’s night? You should head over to Brickskeller; through the end of January, 10 percent of the proceeds from draft beer sales will be donated to the International Red Cross for tsunami relief.
>> Bliss takes over the Black Cat this evening. Hear what’s new in indie rock, along with some electro, hip hop and Britpop music. With DJ Will Eastman and this month’s guest DJ, Trevor Martin. 9 p.m., $6.
SUNDAY:
>>The Post’s Entertainment Guide alerts us to the fact that La Tasca’s trying something new: a regular Sunday viewing of the ABC hit “Desperate Housewives.” Trivia, discounted drinks and giveaways start at 7; the show starts at 9 p.m.
>> Why not finish off the winter wonderland weekend with a trip round the old ice-skating rink? The Sculpture Garden Ice Rink at the National Gallery of Art is as nice as any. 11 a.m.-9 p.m., $7 for admission and $3 for skate rentals.
Stalk DCist: It was a tough choice between Meredith Bragg at the Velvet Lounge and Colin Meloy at Iota, but our love for The Decemberists ensured that we’ll be heading to see Mr. Meloy tonight. Saturday we’re off to Best Cellars to pick up a bottle of wine for a friend’s birthday party on U Street. Sunday is the last day to view the Calder Miro exhibit at the Phillips Collection from noon until 7 p.m., so we might head there. What are you doing?
