Wonkette points DCist to a new article from the Southern Poverty Law Center showing the connection between The Washington Times and several groups with explicit racist agendas. The list of ethically questionable practices from the W.Times uncovered by the SPLC is long. Marian Coombs, wife of Managing Editor Fran Coombs, has had 35 opinion columns published in the paper — with no mention of her connection to her husband. This alone is not too alarming — until it is noted that Marian has long been a writer for The Occidental Quarterly, a periodical whose stated core beliefs include statements like
The European identity of the United States and its people should be maintained. Immigration into the United States should be restricted to selected people of European ancestry… The political and personal freedoms of the American order—including our rights of free expression and association—are in jeopardy from ethnic and ideological enemies and must be preserved.
When questioned on The Occidental Quarterly by the SPLC, Fran Coombs claimed that he “did not know what it was.”
