Last night, someone was murdered in the lobby of the Reeves Center, a District municipal building at the intersection of 14th and U streets NW. According to an e-mail posted on the U Street News listserv by Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham:
Around 3 AM, in entranceway approach to the Club, a person was stabbed to death with a “sharp object” following an argument that began in the Club U with another person.
This is an outrage. This Club has been a source of problems for many years. A number of serious incidents have been connected to this business. Since this murder occurred just moments after leaving the Club, it may be fairly assumed that the weapon was in the person’s possession while he was in the bar, raising issues of proper security.
Less than two months ago, we reported that the embattled Club U would remain open for several more years following a settlement over other issues by the DC Office of Attorney General. In his e-mail, Graham notes that he opposed the settlement and has contacted “alcohol regulation officials” about suspending Club U’s liquor license.
