If you’ve walked down 14th Street NW recently, you may have noticed a few doors down from Café Saint-Ex (14th and T sts) a covered-up window with a tiny sign reading “Bar Pilar” in a font that bares a striking resemblance to that of Saint-Ex. El Camino Real is no more, enter Ernest Hemingway.

According to the Washington Business Journal (second item), the folks that created Café Saint-Ex are crafting Bar Pilar as a “late 1950s international diner” that is named for Hemingway’s famed 38’ Wheeler sportfishing boat and leading female character in “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” It’s set to open next month.

Saint-Ex creator Mike Bensen tells the Business Journal that the new place, which will serve Cuban tacitos, meatloaf and burgers, will “have the definite feel” that Papa Hemingway is in your midst. Considering Saint-Ex’s literary bent, what do you think of creating a space to compliment the legacy of Hemingway?
