If you have any interest in the future of U Street and Shaw as a whole, the District’s Office of Planning and Economic Development and the Office of Planning is hosting a forum tonight on the future of planning in the neighborhoods, especially along the U Street and Seventh Street corridors in Northwest.

The session will address “the redevelopment of key publicly-owned buildings and land, including the Howard Theatre and Grimke School on Vermont Avenue, National Capital Revitalization Corporation’s Parcels 33 and 42, Metro’s Shaw Parcels, and private parcels in the 7th Street/Georgia Avenue and U Street/Florida Avenue commercial corridors.”

In a related note, MM over at In Shaw makes note of important arguments before the Supreme Court today that could change eminent domain practices nationwide. To our knowledge, Kelo v. New London doesn’t have any immediate impact on local redevelopment efforts, but the case has certainly set up an epic battle between the public good, individual property rights and comprehensive planning efforts.
