The District Office of Planning released its final draft of its Convention Center Area Strategic Development Plan, its blueprint for the future of development in the neighborhoods surrounding the Washington Convention Center.
While we encourage you take a look at the report yourself, we’ll point out a few things we thought were interesting.
— Establish a historic district in eastern Shaw to preserve the existing historic neighborhood fabric
— Linear growth along the Seventh and Ninth street corridors between Mount Vernon Square and the U Street corridor, with bolstered retail, mixed-used development while trying to “maintain or increase existing affordable housing.”
— Redesigned traffic corridors for Seventh, Ninth and 11th streets, taking into consideration current and future pedestrian, bike and vehicular use.
— A redesigned intersection where New Jersey, Rhode Island and Florida avenues come together
— P Street crossing Shaw would be a “greenway” with improved arboreal features.
Have you looked at the plan? What do you think?
