Mercury Spills, Who Pays? Classes at Cardozo High School have been relocated to the UDC campus. D.C. wants the EPA to pay for it because they didn’t complete the cleanup after the first spill, something the EPA says they’d consider if the students found the mercury in the building after their cleanup.
Times Finds Patchy Record for D.C. 911 Head: The head of the office that oversee’s D.C.’s 911 communications system, E. Michael Latessa, has been fired from another public safety job in Florida and had troubled relations with employees at a variety of workplaces, the W. Times reports:
“I have no use for the man,” Mr. Latessa’s former boss, Terry Dillon, told the Tampa Tribune in a 1993 interview. “I met with employees about a week after I fired him to tell them my reasons. They gave me a standing ovation and lined up outside as I went to my car to shake my hand.”
Archive Thief Pleads Guilty: A man pleaded guilty to stealing more than 100 Civil War era documents from the National Archive this week. He likely faces a fine and a two year prison term.
