This sounds promising — tonight at Club Five, area bands Medications, Citygoats, and The Aquarium (all of whom DCist is a fan of) are holding a benefit for GreenSkateLab.
GreenSkateLab is a volunteer community effort to build a free, public and environmentally-friendly multi-purpose space for skateboarding, arts and science. At its conception, The Tony Hawk Foundation and AOL awarded the project grant money to get it on its feet; unfortunately, D.C. public schools, who have since decided to remove themselves from the process, have the grant money and aren’t giving it up.
So here comes the benefit. For $10 (100 percent of which will be donated), you can help make sure that the GreenSkateLab, located at Langdon Park Recreation Center, becomes a reality. (Seen here in this image from greenskatelab.org) There’ll also be a mini-ramp with some local skaters, and a chance to win vacations to Woodward Skate Camp and Red Bull’s DJ Academy (which we think is awesome; who knew you could go to a DJ academy?) Doors open at 8 p.m.
