(Classical music agenda contributed by Charles T.
Downey of Ionarts)
This DCist is happiest when there are
plenty of first-rate concerts to attend, but we are
somewhat overwhelmed by the volume of extraordinary
listening opportunities in our area in the first part
of this month. (For more information, see our new Concert
Schedule at Ionarts.) That
we have yet to find a spare 20 hours to do our income
tax return is only adding to our stress level. Does
“concert exhaustion” count as an excuse for not
filing?
PIANO SUPERSTARS:
>> Want to be amazed (and perhaps shamed) by what some
extraordinary people can accomplish in their 20s and
30s? Some of the hottest young stars in the world of
classical piano performance will be gracing local
stages this month. First, thanks to the kind and
generous folks at Washington Performing Arts
Society, Chinese sensation Lang Lang will
play a program of Mozart, Chopin, Schumann,
Rachmaninoff, and Liszt this Saturday, April 2, at
4:30 pm in the Kennedy
Center Concert Hall. His virtuosic playing is sure
to entertain, although some find him too flashy.
Tickets: $35 to $55.
