In advance of Earth Day on Friday, the District today kicks off its Green Week DC today with Environment and Community Day on Freedom Plaza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuesday is Holistic Energy Day at the Reeves Municipal Center at 14th and U streets NW where you’ll be able learn more about renewable energy and see GM hydrogen vehicles. Although pretty much a concrete courtyard, Nassif Plaza at the U.S. Department of Transportation near L’Enfant Plaza will be the site of Wednesday’s “Take a Breath of Fresh Air Day.” There’ll be information about car-sharing programs and opportunities to participate in “clean air activities,” what ever those might be. Thursday is Water Day at Watts Branch Park in Northeast, which has been themed “Flood the City with Education” day with a park cleanup and demonstration by WASA on storm sewers. Then on Earth Day itself, the city will be hosting an exploration of Kingman Island in the Anacostia River with environmental games and addresses from D.C. leaders on how the District can be made greener. Then on Saturday, there will be “e-cycling” at Carter Barron parking lot near 16th and Kennedy streets NW.
