Friday the 13th has been associated with bad luck since as far back as the days of Christ, when 13 prophets dined with Jesus the day before he was crucified — a Friday. Or, for the cultural contemporaries in the crowd, the date is best known as the title of a horror movie starring hockey-mask wearing killer Jason Voorhees. The weather may well reflect the dismal reputation attached to the day — we’re barely gonna break the 60s.

Immigration Lawyers Charged With Fraud: WJLA is reporting on a 149-charge federal indictment against two immigration lawyers and their assistants was unsealed yesterday, revealing accusations against the lawyers for helping forge immigration documents. The lawyers, who worked at two firms based in Washington, provided fraudulent information for more than 170 different applications.

Slurpee Killer To Serve 40 Years: A Maryland teenager was sentenced to four decades in prison for the killing of 18-year old Michael Bassett last May, reports WTOP. The killer, Emmanuel McClain, supposedely became angry when Bassett offered to buy McClain’s girlfriend a slurpee at a Suitland 7-Eleven. Bassett was beaten and left in the middle of a budy roadway.

ABC-7 Files Complaint Against Prince George’s Co.: Channel 7 WJLA, the local ABC affiliate, filed charges Wednesday against police in Prince George’s County for excessive use of force in detaining the news team’s investigative reporter on April 15. WTOP reports that the reporter, Andrea McCarren, pictured at right, and her photographer were stopped and surrounded by upwards of a dozen police officers when they identified her as a threat to the life of an officer they were investigating. Prince George’s County officials have thus far refused to release information on the incident, prompting Channel 7’s actions.
