For 38 summers, the Northwest Youth Alliance has been rocking D.C. residents with free all-ages outdoor shows at the District’s highest point, Fort Reno Park. Performers have ranged from local high school bands to up-and-coming local acts to nationally known bands like Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, who played last year. And as usual, DCist has been waiting anxiously for the release of the Fort Reno’s 2005 schedule so we could plan our summer. Would we see Washington Social Club sweat it out? Would Fugazi reunite to close out the summer, or perhaps the Dismemberment Plan? Unfortunately, the schedule — usually out in the days around Memorial Day — has yet to appear. The only grains we are able to glean: The Evens, new band of former Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye, are slated to play June 30 with The Routineers; and Q and Not U are playing July 18. We were only able to get this information from Dischord Records’ website. Is that how it’s going to be, Fort Reno?
If anyone has confirmation of other acts to play the Fort Reno stage, we’d love to hear it. We feel bad scooping the venue’s own website, but come on — we’ve got to plan our vacations around something!
On a separate note, Ian MacKaye’s kid sister Amanda heads up The Routineers. If it’s anything like years past, June 30 is sure to be a MacKaye family reunion, complete with grandparents and diaper bags. Can you be a punk-rock parent — or a punk rock baby?
