D.C. United fans celebrated a come-from-behind win this week and have been rewarded with a high profile exhibition game as a midsummer treat. Chelsea FC, who posted a 29-1-8 record this past season as they soared to win the Premiereship, will be coming to these shores to take on the United here in the DC area, as well as playing a pair of dates with Champions’ League runners-up AC Milan. AC Milan is similarly scheduled to play the Chicago Fire, against whom the United shook off their scoring woes in a somewhat Liverpudlian 4-3 victory earlier this week.

If the United are turning a corner this season, it would come at a most opportune time. Despite the dearth of goals, the United are, for all intents and purposes, entangled in a third-placeish knot in the Eastern Conference with the Kansas City Wizards and the New York (N.J.) MetroStars. They’ll have plenty of opportunity to make up some ground over their next four games, which include home games against New England, Kansas City, and San Jose, and an away date with Columbus.
