WEDNESDAY:
>> After a decade apart, Digable Planets, who fuse jazz and laid-back hip hop, are together again at the 9:30 Club. Don’t even pretend like you don’t remember their hit, “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat).” NPR has a brief report on their reunion. $25.
THURSDAY:
>> Summer’s slipping away, so make sure to head out to a Fort Reno concert if you haven’t already. Tonight’s Del Cielo (at right), Kathy Cashel, and Eyeball Skeleton (who are, like, negative three years old and already getting reviewed by Pitchfork). Shows, as always, are free and start around 7:15 p.m. Listen to Del Cielo’s “Tell Me A Lie” here.
FRIDAY:
>> Wanda Jackson, aka the First Lady of Rock ‘n Roll (and/or rockabilly, depending on how you’re feeling), brings her raw-edged music and distinctive voice to the Black Cat’s mainstage. Jackson’s a legend in her own right — she had a record deal before she was out of high school in the 50s, and toured with Elvis. $18 in advance, $20 at the door. 9 p.m.
SATURDAY:
>> It’s a night of dancing fun at the Black Cat! Upstairs and for $8, you’ve got Mousetrap, where Britpop will be played late into the night, and downstairs for free you’ve got the Bluestate DJs, spinning everything from indie rock to 80s music to Britney Spears. 9:30 p.m.
>> The Sugar Water Festival showcases soul and hip-hop acts like Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Floetry. Merriweather Post Pavilion, 7 p.m., $41-76.
