MONDAY:
>> Didn’t grab tickets to the now-sold-out Dinosaur Jr. reunion show at the 9:30 Club? May we suggest craigslist or French Toast, The Chance, and Caution Curves at Fort Reno for free? The Fort Reno show starts at 7:15 p.m.; you can check out some French Toast songs here.
>> The DC Hip Hop Theater Festival, a project of the DC Commission on the Arts, features national and international artists and goes on all week. A few of the shows are free and taking place at the Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage; you can see that schedule here. The rest of the extensive schedule, which includes everything from musical performances to art exhibits, can be viewed here.
TUESDAY:
>> Andy Zipf, whom we interviewed a little while back, is at Iota. 8:30 p.m., $10.
WEDNESDAY:
>> Swedish group Caesars (at right) are at the 9:30 Club; they play upbeat electro-pop, and you’d probably recognize their single, “Jerk It Out,” because it was used in an iPod commercial. Stream some of their other material here. $15; The Sights and The Golden Republic open.
THURSDAY:
>> Mac Attack and Athens 82 play DC9. Never heard of either group? The first is a Fleetwood Mac cover band comprised of members of (now defunct) The Carlsonics and Washington Social Club; Athens 82 is an REM cover group (early REM, that is) made up of members from talented local bands Beauty Pill and The Hard Tomorrows. We think it sounds brilliant. $7.
>> Monopoli (who’s got some great mp3s up here), the Sprites (fronted by Jason Korzen, formerly of Barcelona), and the Antiques are at Fort Reno. We’re really, really hoping the rain gods will take pity on us tonight, because we’ve been looking forward to this show for a while.
FRIDAY:
>> DJ Bob Mould spins with VHS or Beta and Controller Controller at the Black Cat. Bob Mould (we interviewed him here), formerly of Hüsker Dü, has made a pretty good name for himself as a DJ with his popular Blowoff nights. VHS or Beta play slick retro-electronica and supposedly put on a high-energy show. Things get started at 9:30, and tickets are $10.
