Tell Us about Your Meals!
During a DCist restaurant week dinner last night (yes, we interact in real life as well) we realized that our views and reviews on the food world come from a self-selected group of food watchers both on and offline. But since Restaurant Week offers the opportunity for many more people to check out restaurants they can’t normally afford, we thought it would be a good idea to hear the voices of the peanut gallery. So we’re trying to gather a mass Restaurant Week roundup, compiling the experiences of our readers into a longer post for Monday. Hopefully it will serve as a good reference not only for readers looking for restaurant tips, but also for the next Restaurant Week — which will probably be in January. Tons of markups? Limited menu? Outstanding service even though you were in jeans? Leave thoughts on your RW meals in the comments, or send this DCist an email. Thanks!
U Street Going More Upscale
Thanks to hot food blogger Metrocurean, who previewed not one, not two, but three new spots coming to U Street. Now open are new Italian restaurant Al Crostino, in the old Kuna location, and Creme, where Cottage Cafe used to be. Monday sees the soft opening of Tabaq , reportedly a five story lounge/bar which will feature Mediterranean tapas. In a change from the usual U Street bars, it’s rumored that Tabaq will also have a dress code, so leave your tattered Bruce Lee t-shirt at home.
And From the Department of We’ll Regret This…
Received on the Hill East listserv yesterday:
The Safeway liquor store is undergoing some sort of massive reorganization and as a result is selling hundreds of bottles of wine (much of it pretty good) for 75% off…
And they forgot to mention the liquor. This DCist picked up a bottle of El Tesoro Anejo, two liters of vodka, and four bottles of good wine for $71 yesterday. Time on the sale is limited, and not everything in the liquor section is available — but this is the kind of bargain basement sale that we love. The Safeway, the only grocery store that sells hard liquor in all of D.C., is located at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue, D St., and 14th St. SE, north of the Potomac Ave. Metro. Lucky for you, it also has a parking lot. Comments decrying the fact that we’re spoiling the secret in 5… 4… 3…
