Wondering about the Next Kliman
After yesterday’s news that Todd Kliman was leaving the City Paper, we got to wondering about who his eventual replacement would be. Kliman — like many food writers — did not get the position from any formal “food writing” training, but from a love of writing and food. In a prior life, he was one of Howard University’s coolest professors, and it took him a year to finally land a regular column with the City Paper. Now that he’s gone, will the name Young & Hungry remain? And who’s next? Amanda McClements, now a freelancer but formerly food writer for Roll Call, is one possibility, though she’s expressed a love for her new, office-free job. The City Paper could, conceivably, go with an academic again and tap Tyler Cowen, though he’d have to get used to longer writing. Maybe they’ll approach the writer they last profiled in Young & Hungry, Joe Heflin, or some popular area food blogger. In any event, the person tapped to fill in for Kliman will have large shoes to fill.
