As we reported earlier today the Pennsylvania Avenue bar Capitol Lounge suffered a severe fire late last night. The news caused a flurry of emails as members of the Capitol Hill community swapped photos and the news. A DCist reader and self-admitted frequent visitor to the bar has sent us dozens of exclusive photos taken earlier today, including a number of the fire damage to the bar’s decorations. The images above are details from two: one photo of a Marion Barry campaign poster which our tipster noted seems to be unscathed, and another of a Reagan – Bush campaign sign melted by the extreme heat. Our source says that according to information he received from employees there’s no evidence it was anything except an accident – probably caused by a cigarette.
