No Major Snags for Weekend Protests: Of the estimated 150,000 people who made their way downtown for Saturday’s protest, there were only a handful of arrests and counter-protesters, the Examiner reports.

Infant Dies in Columbia Heights Fire: A fire caused by a small candle took the life of a 10-month-old infant in Columbia Heights yesterday, the Post reports. The family’s electricy had been shut off because they were behind in their payments, and the Post reports that the paperwork to provide the family emergency funds was in processing over the weekend. Councilmember Jim Graham wrote about the fire in an email to constituents, pledging to investigate the situation.

Hybrid Buses on the Way: WMATA has purchased fifty hybrid buses that cost over $500,000 each to supplement the agency’s aging bus fleet, the Examiner reports. If the buses work out they may purchase as many as 50 more by 2008.
