More High Housing Cost Data: As if we needed another study to be convinced, the Post reports an Urban Institute study of housing prices in the District concluded that 80 percent of all homes on the market last year were out of reach of average District residents.

McMansions Curtailed in Arlington: The Post reports the Arlington County Board voted yesterday to drastically cut back the size of homes allowed on lots in the county. The new rule would limit the footprint of homes to 30 percent of the lot for most homes. Area suburbs have been grappling with the trend of “bigfoot” houses — homes out of scale with their surroundings.

Fenty Pushes Commuter Tax: Although a federal court may have ruled a commuter tax in D.C. is unconstitutional without congressional approval, Ward 4 Councilmember Adrian Fenty announced yesterday he would advocate a public referendum on the topic next November to register the city’s objection to the court ruling, the Post reports. What’s Fenty up to, and how might this impact the mayoral race? We’ll have another post about the proposal soon. The Post also reported yesterday the Council set the date of the first vote on a citywide smoking ban – December 6.
