Though most local theaters are wrapping up their 2005 seasons come December, the Christmas season’s also a great time for national tours to empty the pockets of those hunting for gifts for their Broadway babies. While new regional pickings are sparse this month, if you’ve got a craving for a large-scale musical, this is your time of year.

Hear the People Sing over at the National Theatre’s production of Les Miserables. They’re calling this the last Washington engagement of the show, but pardon us over at DCist if we’re a bit skeptical of this particular hype.

Kennedy Center’s production of Wicked (Dec. 21) is as “Popular” as its star’s signature song; the entire run is sold out. But there’s always Craigslist and last-minute cancellation (and Kennedy Center, you KNOW you want to hand over a couple of comp tickets to DCist, right?)

Don’t keep your distance from Evita over at Warner Theatre, particularly if you missed the show when it was in Baltimore (Dec. 27).

And if you like your musicals infused with some local talent, give Arena Stage’s production of Damn Yankees a try (Dec. 9).
