Hipster New Year’s Resolutions:

1. Quit smoking
2. Start a new band
3. Take advantage of D.C.’s free museums
4. Purchase furniture store on eBay
5. No more Makeoutclub.com at work.

Umm, back up a second. Purchase what from eBay?

That’s right, hipster. If your resolution list looks anything like this, today is your lucky day. At the going rate of $150K in cash, you can walk away the instant owner of Good Eye 20th Century Interiors located on Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights, near the always-hip Mazza Gallery. According to an eBay posting, your New Year’s resolution to live out that Valley of the Dolls fantasy by owning a cluttered-furniture store packed from floor to ceiling with campy fifties and sixties home accents can finally come true. At last, you’ll have the street-cred and storage space to put purpose to scouring yard sales, the Salvation Army, thrift stores, and the obituaries for vintage Herman Miller butterfly chairs or mod curios.

Hold your horses, and put that pen and checkbook back in their holster. This puppy’s got strings attached. The criteria for transfer of ownership aren’t that easy. Clearly, we all have the $150K to spend at our whim and fancy – which you’ll need because the mildly brokerphobic owners require a cash-only transfer – but expect to be interviewed before dropping all that large. What’s more, the purchase includes little more than the inventory and a transfer of the lease. The building is owned by a landlord (who requires a credit check), and the website remains the domain of the prior owners. They offer assistance in business development, but you’ll need to bring considerable creativity and business savvy to keep the store afloat. Most importantly is this:

[you] MUST possess a strong eye for Mid Century Modern, a savy [sic] business sense, and keen marketing skills.

Here’s the upside. Millennium Decorative Arts furniture store on U Street, which boasts similar designs and a similarly cluttered space, has scaled down its operations, and eBay now offers a chance to the highest bidder to expand the niche market of mid-century modern furniture. We’d suggest dipping into that trust fund quickly though; the latest in “IT” from eBay closes bidding tomorrow at 3 p.m.

New Year’s Resolution #4, check!
