While Las Vegas, Miami, and New York all get the privilege of having both Crime Scene Investigation labs and a cool show that dramatizes and glorifies their work, the District gets the shaft and has neither of the two. That may soon change. Well, the lab part, at least.

NBC 4 is reporting that District officials would love to have their own crack CSI team to investigate crime scenes, dust for prints, collect and analyze DNA, and otherwise play the cool and collected science types on the police force. Currently, the District relies on the ever-busy FBI crime lab, which forces delays upon prosecutions and, worse yet, only takes in evidence from the most serious cases, leaving others to languish in the cold case file. The price-tag on such a lab would come in at $200 million.

And even if we don’t get the lab, can we at least get our own spin-off of the popular CBS drama? The District really does have it all to make for an exciting new CSI — plenty of crime, the federal government and its many backroom deals gone wrong, jurisdictional battles between the countless police forces that work within the confines of the city, and a diverse populace. C’mon, CBS, hook us up.
