And just around the time that we were going to pronounce that D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams’ official blog was on life support, he swoops in to save the day with an engaging post longer than most of his other posts combined. While his most recent foray into the world of blogging included a spiritual take on handling the daily stresses of his job, yesterday Williams dug through his mail and offered us an insight into one part of his busy job.

Before jumping into some letters and emails he had recently received, Williams noted the following on the number and subject-matter of the correspondence he receives:

You’ll be interested to know that I receive an average of 7 letters a week on education, 50 on human services, 26 on public safety, 16 on economic development, 416 on district services, 17 on website issues, 55 on general information, and 111 on a broad universe of issues I’ll just call mayoral.

He then published excerpts from various letters and emails he received on issues ranging from employment to clean streets to the DMV to compliments on his tenure.

Hats off to you, Mayor Williams. Though you’re not blogging often, your recent entries have provided us with a small yet intriguing snapshot of what it must be like to try and wrestle with this beast we call city government. Keep ’em coming.
