You’d have to be living under a rock to have missed the furor over allegations that several Duke lacrosse players raped an exotic dancer they’d hired to perform at a team party. The story has developed local connections, as well, as we’ve learned that suspect Colin Finnerty will face assault charges for a separate incident here in Washington, and David Evans, originally from Bethesda, recently became the third individual indicted in the case.

Questions echoing through the media on the propriety of having a stripper at a team event in the first place have apparently not resonated with some local students, however, as we learn today that Catholic University is investigating photos taken at a party thrown by its women’s lacrosse team, in which a male exotic dancer is shown practicing his art. It’s not clear, actually, that the party took place recently (though the photos are shown labelled, “Catholic University Women’s Lacrosse Initiation Party 2006”), nor is it clear that the event could be described as “hazing.” It does seem likely, however, that CUA (and probably some parents) will be taking some action in the near future.

Girls will be girls, and college students will be college students, and yes, it appears to be a bad-ass party. But the timing and common sense shown by the team make it probable that they’ll be regretting the bucks they stuffed in that policeman’s support garment.
