>> Free tonight? Check out the opening reception at Flashpoint of Ken Ashton’s De Aqui al Paraiso. The collection of photographs documents working-class neighborhoods as they are constantly affected by urban sprawl and the “ever-changing imprints of human existence.” Thursday, June 1, 6 to 8 p.m.

>> Warehouse provides us with some mind-boggling art to kick off the weekend with the opening of Charbel Ackermann’s installations The New Geometry and Monumnent2. The first manipulates a map of the world to literally represent Bush’s “Axis of Evil.” The second is a drawing of thousands of barcodes in the shape of a Roman arch. Handheld scanners are provided to read the text message on each one and to speed up the self-check out line. 10 items or less, people. Opening Reception – Friday, June 2, 6 to 8 p.m.

>> Trying to get your art, music and chocolate fix in one place? Come to Washington: A Song for the City, continues its painting exhibition tour as it moves to Love Café today. Though our readers might disagree with the campaign to make Lincoln Ross’ Come to Washington the city’s unofficial theme song, that won’t stop the group effort as they hang J. Arthur’s painting of a scenic Southeast street corner in each quadrant throughout the summer. Visitors are invited to scrawl on the painting, and such high-profile local personalities as news anchor Marueen Bunyon have already contributed their marks, which will surely increase its worth exponentially when it’s auctioned off for charity this fall. We’re sending our intern down this evening to leave our collective tag: DCist Rulz! Love Café, 1501 U Street, NW. June 1 – 29.
