Summer is here and with it comes wholesome outdoor entertainment for the whole family. The spotlit evening baseball games, campground marshmallow roasting, and of course, the subversive DC rock concert series that is Fort Reno. Boasting no alcoholic beverages but a lot of teens and a few strollers, the free concert rocks atop the highest point in DC every Monday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30 throughout the summer. During the civil war, the Parrot heavy rifles were known to shell as far as 3 and half miles away into Bethesda. Let’s just hope the sound doesn’t travel as far.

This year’s Fort Reno features two veteran musicians representing the home (state): Mary Timony and Head Roc. The entire outdoor series offers a mix of local music, from folk to rock to pop, so get there whenever and however you can. Let’s just hope Ris Paul Ric gets on the bus. There’s still spaces Chris!

Some of the Fort Reno acts we’ve covered: Georgie James, Greenland, Shwa, The Hard Tomorrows, and Pagoda.

Fort Reno is a free and volunteer-run event, so please keep it running by donating:

The Northwest Youth Alliance desperately needs your help if the Fort Reno summer concerts are to continue. Every little bit helps; even if you only send in the $5 it would normally cost you to see a band, you will be making a difference. Of course, larger donations are welcome, too. Donations are tax deductible and should be given in the form of a check made out to Northwest Youth Alliance. The address is:
3351 Highwood Dr. SE, Washington DC, 20020.

We’ll see you out there.
