Friday
>>Summer Fridays are meant for free beer, long strolls and casual socializing. Which is exactly why they started the Bethesda Art Walk. We recommend catching the opening reception of the Fraser Gallery’s Summer Group Exhibit. Six artists have displayed their new work in photography and painting. The oil on metal paintings by Michael Fitts look like a rougher versions of light, breezy subjects, while Lee Goodwin’s gelatin silver prints of black and white landscapes (pictured) are Ansel Adams-y crisp and majestic. 6 to 8 p.m, free.
Saturday
>>You know that dusty cardboard box filled with metal reels in your parent’s attic? When I found our old family movies my grandfather planned a whole day around showing his grand-kids the old family trips to Disneyland and Easter dinners, only to find out his projector lens was irreparably broken. With similar cries around the globe and not enough projectors on eBay to go around, Home Movie Day comes to our rescue. Grab your 8 and 16 mm films and head over to the Pickford Theater at the Library of Congress and get ready to bask in the nostalgia. 1 to 4 p.m., free.
>>If you’re a tough broad not afraid to kick a little ass while flying at mach speeds on tiny wheels, the DC Rollergirls are looking for you. Bring your guns and your brass knuckles to the Palace of Wonders for their Recruiting Party. Be ready to throw-down. 8 p.m., free.
