Good morning, Washington. In case last week’s single-tracking of the Blue Line wasn’t enough, it looks like there will be more Metrorail delays this weekend. WMATA’s website tells us that Red, Blue and Green Line riders should expect delays starting Friday night and going through Sunday at midnight. Though it’s a pain for those of us still in town, better they do this when most folks are out of the District as opposed to, say, during springtime?

One Killed, Three Wounded in Southeast Shooting: As reported by WJLA, at 11:30 p.m. Thursday night, a man drove up and started shooting where a group of people were standing on a sidewalk in the 4,600 block of Benning Road. No other details at this time, though the three other victims, a 19-year-old female, and two 18-year-old males are reportedly in stable condition at various local hospitals.

White House Cares Not for Traffic: In a wise move, Virginia officials did not find the Secret Service’s request to close HOV lanes Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. so President Bush could get to a fundraiser for Senator George Allen to be a prudent one. Considering that the Post quoted experts who said 8,600 cars use the HOV lanes from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. on weekdays, equalling between 20,000 and 22,000 cars, we would have seen traffic like never before. See, there are folks out there fighting for the commoners. Kind of. And the Prez took his ‘copter instead.

Gray Tosses out 15,000 Non-Union Leaflets: What happens when you’re running for D.C. Council and you print up 15,000 leaflets that were not printed by labor? You toss them out, that’s what. The Washington Council for the AFL-CIO, who has yet to endorse Gray or his opponent Kathy Patterson, says they are not fans of a candidate asking for a labor endorsement but print non-union materials. WJLA reports that the Gray campaign sees it as a brief oversight that won’t happen again. Hope they recycle.
