Gloves Off in Televised Debate: Top Democratic mayoral candidates Linda Cropp and Adrian Fenty squared off in a one-on-one debate that aired early yesterday evening on NewsChannel 8. The tenor of the debate quickly became hostile, with Cropp continuing her attacks on Fenty’s trustworthiness while Fenty for the first time vigorously defended himself, taking Cropp to task for campaigning against him instead of highlighting his record. You can find excerpts of the debate here. Who do you think won?
Editorial Smacks Metro Representative: Fight, Fight, Fight! We read a very entertaining editorial from the Examiner this morning, accusing Metro Associate General Counsel Sonia Bacchus of wildly overestimating the costs of providing the paper copies of documents it requested from Metro as a means of avoiding sharing information with the public. Either Metro is lying, or they’re wildly over-paying their assistants (though clearly, the figures the Examiner tosses around don’t include the cost of supplies). We can hardly wait to see how Metro responds.
Williams Renews Curfew: Mayor Williams announced yesterday that the 10 p.m. curfew for children 16 and under will remain in effect for another month past the beginning of the school year. The original curfew, enacted towards the beginning of the crime emergency, would have expired tomorrow.
Briefly Noted: Police officer arrested for alleged shooting of his wife, also an officer … Arson suspected in dangerous S.W. fire … Orange-supporting bus driver fired by Metro.
This Day in DCist: In 2005, we looked at the blogs coming out of the Hurricane Katrina devastation, and in 2004 we visted a Rock, Paper Scissors contest.
