Just as it’s back-to-school time for area students, it’s back-to-the-boards time for the area’s theatre community. September brings with it a host of new productions to get you through the lingering heat.

Arena Stage bids us Willkommen, Bienvenue and Welcome with their inaugural production of Cabaret (Sept. 8).

The presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson was just crying for a Shakespearean take, at least according to American Century Theatre, who will stage Macbird! (Sept. 8).

Two shows are coming to DC straight from off-Broadway; Studio Theater will stage Red Light Winter, which features an unlikely love-triangle (Sept. 6) and Woolly Mammoth will host the smash In The Continuum, a frank look at AIDS among black women (PWYC Aug. 28).

Synetic Theatre has no desire to wait till Halloween to get us in a macabre mood: their Frankenstein is at the Kennedy Center (Sept. 13)

All together now: The Rain In Spain Falls Mainly On The Plains. Leave your cockney accent at the door, as Signature Theatre stages My Fair Lady (Sept 26).
