It’s getting down to the wire. The city’s Democratic primary will occur next Tuesday, at which point the identity of the city’s next mayor will almost certainly be decided (there’s always time for post-primary scandal, we suppose — or maybe just hope). Today’s Post tackles the race with an all-out blitz. If you’ve somehow missed out on the flyers, handshakes and speeches that have blanketed the city these past few months, you may want to head over there (particularly if you’re predisposed to favor Adrian Fenty). But if you’ve been following the race at all, it seems likely that by now you’re tired of hearing about Cropp and/or Fenty. For those of you in this latter category, cheer up: on Tuesday it’ll all be over. Well, except for the next four years.

Tysons Tunnel Plans Scrapped: It looks like Tysons Corner won’t be getting an underground Metro line after all, according to the Post. Recent weeks had seen a flurry of activity on that front, as state officials tried to make the numbers work. However, federal authorities became progressively antsier about the cost-effectiveness of the tunnel option, and Governor Kaine ultimately decided that risking federal funding — a necessary precondition for the project — wasn’t worth the potential city-planning payoff that a tunnel would represent.

Immigration Rally Today: Did you plan to drive down Constitution Avenue this afternoon? We hope not. There’s an immigrant rights rally planned for today on the Mall. NBC4 reports that organizers are expecting half a million people (WTOP pegs the number at a perhaps-more-realistic “at least 25,000”). However many show up, two things seem certain: first, that it’ll be tough to get around; and second, that the Washington Times will throw a fit. The rally begins at 4.
