Happy May Monday, D.C.! Oh, sorry, it’s actually December. Forgive me for not realizing that, since it’s slated to be a ridiculous 66 degrees today. Can anybody enlighten us as to what is going on? Anyone? For now, you can read a post over on CapitalWeather.com that “glaringly exposed the disconnect between television meteorologists and the climate science community,” according to the site. Meanwhile, enjoy the weather!
Virginia Parishes Break Away: Those Episcopalian churches in Virginia that weren’t so much a fan of the gays? Well, yesterday they did something official about it when seven parishes in the state voted to break away from the U.S. church. The Post notes that this split is not merely reflective of a deepening divide within the Episcopalian denomination, but also is about a heck of a lot of money. Apparently property that a few of the churches own in Fairfax County is worth $25 million. Which, wow. How can I get in on that?
Protesters to be Punished: Gallaudet has gone ahead and approved punishment for more than 100 student protesters whose actions eventually led to the ouster of the woman nominated to be the school’s president. The board of trustees will continue the judicial process in the next few weeks. Apparently, disciplinary actions could range from expulsion to paper writing (gasp!). Maybe they should just make the students write “I will not stand up for what I believe in” 100 times on a blackboard.
Man Charged in Fire Assault: Some charming fellow in Southeast was charged today with pouring liquid on a woman in her apartment building and proceeding to set her on fire. The woman is currently in critical condition at Washington Hospital Center, suffering from burns to over 60 percent of her body.
Briefly Noted: Tysons blueprint to be completed by 2007 … Fairfax County students spend loads o’ time in school … D.C. council awaits (eagerly?) committee assignments …
