Ford’s Funeral Plans Finalized: The official schedule for President Ford’s funeral services has been announced. Ford’s remains will arrive at Andrews Air Force Base on Saturday at approximately 5:20 p.m., followed by a motorcade through Alexandria, Va., in remembrance of President Ford’s long residence in the city. At 6:30 p.m., Ford’s body will arrive at the East Steps to the U.S. House of Representatives. The casket will then be met by a group of his former House colleagues, and lie in repose at the open House doors, honoring his time in Congress. Ford will then be carried through Statuary Hall, arriving in the Rotunda for the Lying in State portion of the state funeral, which will be open to the public until 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The casket will then proceed in a motorcade past the White House to the funeral service at the National Cathedral, which begins at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. No announcement yet on the official motorcade route, or whether the Federal Government will operate on an adjusted schedule on Tuesday. We’ll keep you posted.
