FRIDAY:

>> January at 9:30 Club tends to be a no man’s land of lots of dark nights with the occassional local line-up thrown in for good measure. So we think it’s great that Taint, DC9’s weekly queer dance night for electro-indie goodness, and Black Cat’s popular Bliss have ganged up to create INFAMY, a late-night dance fiesta featuring DJ Will Eastman and New York’s DJ Bill Coleman, with special guest Daisy Spurs. Doors open at 11 p.m., $12 gets you in the door. If only 9:30 Club held regular dance nights like this.

>> Before you hit the dance floor, why not pop around the corner to check out the opening reception for Gregory McClellan and Tim Pittman’s new exhibition at Project 4 Gallery, titled There’s No Time for This. The press materials make the whole endeavor sound a bit like a contemporary art circus, with promises of cross-stitched reproductions of garbage, iPods engaging in conversations with each other, and men in their underwear. Literally something for everyone, then.

SATURDAY:

>> Mayor Adrian Fenty’s Inaugural Ball, of course! 15,000 free tickets were handed out at the Reeves Center, and if you got hold of some for yourselves, it sounds like you’re in for a real treat: 60 buffet tables, plus food stations from Georgia Brown’s, Chef Geoff’s, Mie N Yu, Clyde’s, Indique, and Busboys and Poets; Chuck Brown, Chopteeth, jazz pianist Marcus Johnson, a handful of soul singers, and goodness only knows what else. At the Washington Convention Center, Exhibit Halls A & B, 7 p.m.

>> If you didn’t grab a ticket for the ball, consider celebrating the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s untimely death birth at the annual celebration over at Dr. Dremo’s Taphouse. The Night of 100 Elvises is a costume contest, an Elvis-only karaoke night, a concert by professional impersonators, and a chance to eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches. It’s $10 to get in, but free if you’re wearing an Elvis costume (any era is acceptable). 7 p.m.
