What does a young graffiti artist brought down in his prime do? Go back to tagging of course, but this time for a living.

Borf, the notorious Virginia-based graffiti artist that spent the better part of two years brazenly tagging everything in the District from garbage cans to highway signs (a sampling of his work is pictured here), may just have found his dream job. After being sentenced to a month in jail last February and forbidden from coming near the city with anything resembling paint supplies, today we discovered that one of the District’s public schools is actually looking for an accomplished graffiti artist to teach weekly classes to elementary-aged children. So reads the job posting:

Part time GRAFFITI artist needed in new L.E.A.P. after school program (a 21st Century Learning Center). Responsibilities include working with children grades 3 – 6, teaching Graffiti/Hip-Hop style visual arts, and working off of an already existing syllabus and adapting it when necessary. Must be patient and able to deal with young kids in groups of 10 to 20. Must be able to show a portfolio of past art work (Aerosol Art is preferred). Teaching experience preferred but not necessary.

Job Location: Scott Montgomery E.S., 421 P St. NW, Washington DC 20001

If it weren’t for that three-year court-mandated prohibition from using art supplies, Borf just might be the guy for this job. Though his skills as an urban artist have been hotly debated, some of his stencil work was impressive, as was the speed and discretion he used to create it. Of course, being that he lived with his family in Great Falls during his tagging reign and often borrowed money from his father to park in a downtown garage, he may lack the desired understanding of urban art and hop-hop culture. And, to be perfectly honest, the $100 weekly stipend might not be a lot for a guy who had to shell out $12,000 in restitution to the District after being caught tagging.

Is Cool Disco Dan still around? He’d be great for this job.
