MONDAY
>> Looking for an act whose name you are sure to forget at least once over the course of the evening? We give you an Orlando hip-hop duo with a name like a serial number: X:144 and SPS. Okayplayer called their debut collaboration, M.E., “a producer’s wet dream.” At the Red and the Black. 9:30 p.m., $8.

>> After releasing solo CDs and making babies, Aterciopelados, Colombia’s finest rock en español outfit is back with their sweetly melodic folk, twee, and electronic tinged sound. At the State Theater, 8:30 p.m., $26.

TUESDAY
>> We were in Borders the other day and saw a book version of the movie Dreamgirls, the sort of thing that’s called a “novelization.” So what do you call Dublin’s The Commitments, a band derived from a movie that was an adaptation of a short story? They’ll be at the Birchmere tonight, so you can see for yourself how their rendition of “Mustang Sally” measures up to the movie version. 7:30 p.m., $27.50.

>> Veteran emotional Lawrence, Kansas post-rockers Appleseed Cast will be at The Rock and Roll Hotel tonight. We’re excited to see them after all these years, as well as openers The Life and Times, who rose from the ashes of the dearly departed Shiner. This show is your sure fire chance to party like it’s 1998. 8 p.m., $10/12.

WEDNESDAY>> At the intersection of Jimi Hendrix and Rumi, there is Haale. David Byrne is a big fan, and the Persian New Yorker’s “Sufi Psych Rock” is getting a lot of buzz up in NYC. Look for her on the Black Cat’s mainstage next time she passes through town. At the Black Cat backstage. 8:30 p.m., $12.

>> The last time that Pete Yorn played a show at the 9:30 Club, he sold out way in advance, so this time they went ahead and booked him two nights in a row. Tuesday’s show is sold out, so hurry up and snag your tickets for tonight. Unless you’re like DCist Editor Sommer, who insists on referring to the artist by his proper name, “Pete Yawn.” In that case you can just stay home. 9:30 p.m., $25.

>> If Pete Yorn sells out you can always satisfy your guys-with-guitars craving at the State Theater tonight with goth-rock from Vast, plus New York’s Kill the Alarm, Cali’s August House, and local faves Army of Me. 8:30 p.m., $13/16.

>> Grammy-winning Cajun band BeauSoleil are at Wolf Trap tonight. The folks at Wolf Trap have removed the floor seats from the Barns, so you’ll have plenty of room to perfect your Zydeco-waltz without stepping on any toes. 8 p.m., $24.
