It’s hard to know where to start this week, given all the news in Washington’s food world. Chef changes, award nominations, scandals, and battles have enveloped us without us even noticing. Let’s dig right in, juicy stuff first.

Review Not, that Ye be Not Reviewed
A couple weeks back we told you about a fight between New York Times critic Frank Bruni and restaurateur Jeffery Chodorow. Now, close your eyes, replace Frank Bruni with a former Howard lecturer cum food editor, Jeffery Chodorow with another large Italian chef, and New York with a city full of marble and alabaster and you have this week’s top story: Roberto Donna is going to review Washingtonian food editor Todd Kliman because of a scathing review.

The duo over at Reliable Source broke the news today that Donna was so sick and tired of food reviewers that he was going to up and start a blog of his own. Hell yes, Roberto! There is no better way to show those damn food reviewers what’s up than reviewing them reviewing others. It’ll be just like your own Don Rockwell.com, right down to the self-satisfaction.

I suppose that reading a review that refers to your restaurant as arrogant and careless could push you over the edge, but printing up bumper stickers that say “Don’t Believe the Washingtonian?” That’s a little over the top. Granted, we don’t see much reason to include gossip about your financial matters in the article. After all, if reviews did that every time the food section would be so depressing.

Rumor is that the blog will start next month. We here at DCist can’t wait to read it, but we suspect that by that time, Roberto will have cooled down and called his lawyers off Kliman. If not, we look forward to a post about how he makes his polenta so delicious while making his waitstaff hate the customers so much.
