FRIDAY:

>> If you still haven’t been out to a live show by The Lost Atoms, rock now or forever hold your peace. Shortly after tonight’s show at Velvet Lounge, guitarist Paul [] and bassist Keith will marry their beautiful and talented fiancees, and the band will be divorced. Explaining the breakup with a typically droll statement on the band’s blog, singer Matt Lame writes, “life happened, and there isn’t time.” It’s rumored the band have been rehearsing their entire recorded catalog for this show, so given their punk roots and short attention spans, we predict about a forty minute set, full of crowd-favorites and shouted singalongs. With Karmella’s Game, 9 p.m.

SATURDAY:

>> It’s time for the Smithsonian Kite Festival once again. The favorite local event has been going on for 41 years, so you don’t really need us to tell you what it’s all about — frankly, putting together the words “kite” and “festival” is enough to bring us out to the Washington Monument grounds. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and please, don’t bother driving anywhere near there. The National Walk for Epilepsy is going on at the same time, and streets will be closed like nobody’s business.

>> Tickets for most of Wolf Trap’s Summer 2007 shows go on sale 10 a.m. You can get tickets that morning by calling 877-WOLFTRAP, ordering online at tickets.com, or in person at the Filene Center box office, where you can avoid service charges. It’ll be a crowded mess as always, but Wolf Trap is doing what it can to make it more enjoyable — free Starbucks and a live performance starting at 9 a.m. for the line-waiters.

>> FYI — Field Music will not be playing Rock and Roll Hotel as originally scheduled. Apparently they think being on British TV is more important than playing in D.C. Hrmph. Menomena and Land Of Talk will play as scheduled.

SUNDAY:

>> How anyone could look at British character actor Roger Rees and think of his role as Lord John Marbury on The West Wing before thinking of his role as Robin Colcord, stuffy billionaire fiance to Rebecca Howe on Cheers, is completely beyond me, but the DCist staff email list indicates otherwise. Regardless of your associations with the actor, he’ll be performing a one-man show about the works of Shakespeare and other literary luminaries at the Folger Shakespeare Library this weekend only. Tickets at $37-$45, follow the link for showtimes.
