I picked a hell of a night to stay home and do laundry. There I was, checking my RSS feed during a Friday Night Lights commercial break when Ivan Carter and the always informative Wizards Insider informed me that Gilbert Arenas arrived late for the afternoon shoot around and would not start against the suddenly hot Charlotte Bobkittens. “Not that big of a deal” I thought, but then I went on to Ivan’s next blog entry, adorned with the disheartening title Arenas leaves with possible leg injury. Ruh-roh. Agent Zero was later diagnosed with a sprained knee, an injury that seems to be infectious in the Wizards locker room.

Gil will have an MRI today that will determine the extent of the injury. As Carter notes, Antawn Jamison missed 12 games with the same injury and Andray Blatche is scheduled to miss eleven with his.

The Wizards need just one win to clinch a playoff spot, something that may be a long time coming with Caron Butler injured, two straight losses to Charlotte and games against Cleveland and New Jersey this weekend. Stay tuned.

*UPDATE* – As commenter JAR notes, Wizards Insider is reporting Arenas is out 2-3 months with a “lateral left meniscus tear in his knee.” There’s bad luck and then there’s losing your two All-Stars in the span of four days just before the playoffs start. Wow.
