One person is dead and several others are wounded after two shootings at Virginia Tech University. Police have one person in custody, but fear that there might be another shooter still on the campus. The two shootings took place two hours apart.
The first shooting took place on the fourth floor at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a dorm that houses almost 900 students, mostly freshmen. It’s being reported that the second incident took place near Norris Hall. The school’s over 28,000 students are now being told to stay in classrooms and dorms, away from windows, until police are certain they’ve apprehended all suspects. All entrances to the campus are also closed.
At the beginning of the school year, Virginia Tech was completely evacuated after a police officer and security guard were shot on campus.
UPDATE:
Local authorities say that at least 22 people were killed and 28 others wounded in the shootings. Police also say the suspect, described as a college-aged Asian man, is dead. The first shooting took place at 7:15 a.m., followed by another attack at around 9:15 a.m.
The campus is now secured and many students are evacuating the area.
