If you’ve been itching for a day of pampering but can’t seem to justify the cost after sending in that check to the IRS, DCist found the perfect excuse. Thursday, Washington women are invited to Beauty Night Out, a event highlighting style and beauty trends along with facials, hair consultations and cocktails. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from the to do benefit Dress for Success, a program to help disadvantaged women flourish in the workplace. Wives and mothers of soldiers abroad or hospitalized at Walter Reed Army Medical Center will also be treated to the five-hour style and shopping extravaganza.

For $35, $45 at the door, organizers say attendees can expect makeovers, skincare consultations, mini-spa treatments, beauty tips and secrets from a celebrity stylist. Did we mention cocktails will be served? Those who pre-register also get a complimentary “beauty bag” along with the myriad of free samples offered throughout the night.

Even if you’re not interested in this annual event, there are still plenty of ways to support Dress for Success, an international non-profit that gives poor women suits and other work attire, along with career training and job placement. Clients are referred to the group from a variety of sources, including homeless and domestic abuse shelters. The goal is not just to get women jobs, but sustainable careers that pay enough to support families and break the cycle of low-paying, dead-end employment.

The charity is always looking for donations of clean, lightly-used suits and other work-appropriate attire, especially in sizes 14 and up. Their Washington office accepts clothing donations at their office, 717 2nd St. NE, by appointment only. Just imagine getting your first job in D.C. without even a pair of dress slacks or a blazer. Though we might not like to admit it, professional appearance can play as large a role as a resume when meeting potential employers.

If you’ve got clothes that have either gone out of style or just don’t fit after skipping the gym all winter, why not give them to a great cause? Or you can splurge on a night of beauty and get your own fresh look for summer.

Beauty Night Out takes place Thursday, April 26, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1250 22nd St., NW. Advance tickets are available online.
